A Bill has been published today which will allow employed parents who have lost a child under the age of 18, to two weeks' paid leave, to allow them time to grieve away from the workplace.

Currently, there is no legal obligation to allow parents such paid time off. However, many employers are of course understanding and flexible in this regard and may have their own policies in place.

Parental bereavement leave will be available to all employees, regardless of their length of service.

However, employees with 26 weeks' or more continuous employment, will also benefit from statutory parental bereavement pay. This cost can be recouped by employers, from the Government.
