We are delighted to have further improved our rankings in the 2021 edition of the Legal 500, the leading independent guide to the legal profession.

The firm is praised for being “small enough to care, big enough to be the best at what they do and the fees are fair and reasonable for the work undertaken”.

The commercial property team is delighted to have been elevated into Tier 3 in the “Corporate Occupiers” section alongside considerably larger firms such as Addleshaw Goddard, Dechert and Shoosmiths. The team are described as giving a “high level of service, attention to detail with 'out the box' thinking to handle unusual positions and/or complex situations”.

Key lawyers within this team are Philip Shotter, Paul Jagger and Philip Mundy who are noted as being “outstanding” and “hugely knowledgeable”. Philip Shotter is noted for his work acting for occupiers in the leisure and hospitality sectors and Paul is “nothing short of fantastic” who works “tirelessly for the clients with nothing being too much trouble”. Philip Mundy is praised for being “quick, efficient, technically astute and taking a commercial view” as well as being “highly intelligent”.

The firm has also been included in the new “Industry Focus – Hospitality & Leisure” section. This is the first year that the Legal 500 have included industry sectors and our inclusion in Tier 3 within this sector is no mean achievement as the qualifying criteria were meant to be that a firm was able to provide a multi-disciplinary service to the sector whereas we are, of course, a specialist property law firm. This is reflective of the fact that we are one of the leading property law practices in the hospitality and leisure sector.

Clients comment that we are “a personable team with a friendly approach and culture. Real people who work diligently for their clients” and that we are also “commercially minded with excellent technical expertise and nice people!”.

Clients also comment that “all of the team at Glovers demonstrate a desire to understand their clients’ objectives and to provide bespoke solutions to individual problems. They are not constrained by tick-box procedures”.

The property finance team have also been recognised for “giving excellent commercial advice” and their “quick response times”. Partners Darran Smith and Philip Mundy are praised as being “first class property lawyers who focus on getting deals over the line”. Darran is said to provide “an excellent service”, Philip is “quick, efficient and technically astute and provides seamless advice” and Liza Lam-Kee is noted for being “both approachable and knowledgeable”.

Clients state that “the team at Glovers are a joy to deal with. They are professional in their approach and offer guidance at every step of the transaction”.

Other clients comment on “the client relationship and ability to cut through the jargon and take a commercial approach being what differentiates them from others” and that the team “always goes the extra mile to ensure good outcomes for their clients and are very thorough and diligent”.

Our property litigation team has also ranked strongly. It is described as being “a small team of extremely competent lawyers with an outstanding aptitude in their field”.

The two partners in the team, Edward Vaughan and Kenny Friday are both described as being “vastly experienced. They are steady litigators, taking any all developments in their stride and reassuring clients with their calm expertise”.

Their expertise in the restaurant and leisure sectors, residential real estate and mortgage and LPA receiver work is also noted. “Edward Vaughan is brilliant. Technically and strategically astute”. Kenny is "excellent" as well as “diligent and unafraid to provide a strong robust legal opinion”.
