BBC National Orchestra of Wales - New Orchestral Broadcasting and Rehearsal Studio, Cardiff Bay
Last Friday, 23 January 2009, and for the next few weeks, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales are performing a series of inaugural concerts before invited audiences to showcase their new Orchestral Broadcasting and Rehearsal Studio in Cardiff Bay. The studio has been favourably received by the Orchestra and critics (see the BBC website). The studio has been "bolted on" to Millennium Hall in Cardiff Bay and it was built by Sir Robert McAlpine to the BBC's specification.
John Barber advised the Sir Robert McAlpine Group Company that entered into the Agreement for Lease with the BBC, which governed the terms on which the studio would be built, the Practical Completion arrangements (which included detailed acoustic tests) and triggered the grant of the Lease to the BBC on Practical Completion for a term of 25 years.
Philip Eyre advised Sir Robert McAlpine on the construction documents.
