Glovers and ExCel

Located in the heart of London's Docklands, ExCeL is the UK's newest and most advanced exhibition and events venue. Glovers handled all of the property and commercial law aspects in connection with the acquisition and development of the ExCeL site.

In addition to acquiring the site for ExCeL (through an agreement for lease followed by a 200-year lease granted on practical completion of the exhibition centre) Glovers acted for ExCeL on the grant of development agreements to hotel operators to build three on-site hotels. Development agreements have also been entered into for a nightclub, a multi-use refurbished warehouse complex and a children's crèche. We have also acted in respect of the development and funding of a multi-storey on-site car park.

We have set up the leasehold structure for all of the "in venue" restaurants and cafes, which are to be found in the central boulevard and on the dockside.

On the operational side Glovers advised ExCeL on contracts for core services such as cleaning, security, traffic marshalling, car park management and facilities management as well as more site specific services such as rigging and IT support contracts. We also advised ExCeL on long-term agreements to bring in key exhibitors such as the Boat Show and the Toy Fair.
