Professional Negligence

Our Professional Negligence unit acts for a range of commercial clients and some private clients, with particular focus on businesses operating in the Financial Institutions and Real Estate sectors.

We originally built our reputation acting for financial institutions which had suffered as a result of the crash of the property market in the early 1990s. Our long-standing experience in this field has proved invaluable in this recent recession, which has produced a surge of professional negligence claims.

We have specialist expertise in lender claims, particularly property-based claims or against surveyors and solicitors in negligence and fraud for both commercial and residential lenders. We also represent clients in negligence claims against other professionals, including accountants, architects and quantity surveyors.

The strength of our team is recognised by the Legal 500, and head of the Professional Negligence unit, Catherine Connolley, has been described as an "expert in the field".

As professional negligence cases often involve an element of banking, fraud or property, we work closely with other specialist units in Glovers’ wider Litigation and Dispute Resolution department and our Finance, Commercial Property and Residential Property departments and can call upon their expertise for the maximum benefit of clients.

As with all disputes, we are always looking to achieve the most cost-effective means of settling clients’ cases and many of the professional negligence claims we are involved in are resolved through ADR, particularly mediation.
